I don’t know how the whole herd immunity thing is going, and a vaccine against covid-19 is far in the future, but I note a robust degree of herd immunity to the inroads of rationality. (From Facebook.)

Call me elitist, but if I were hurtling toward Alpha Centauri to restart civilization I would a hell of a lot rather have Dr. Atul Gawande be in charge.
I think we’re not even going to get to FTL travel, let alone a space-seeding expedition to Proxima Centauri (the one with the supposedly habitable planet). We’ve seen what our priorities are like even for technologies that can prevent us from dying tomorrow.
